Hi all. I am new to this forum. I want to mesh a grid fin surrounded by a farfield using ICEM CFD. I followed a tutorial on youtube that shows unstructured meshing both octree/delauny. I seem to have a problem with exporting and saving the mesh file. Someone plz help me in this regard.

PS: I dont even know if I should be using a structured or an unstructured mesh I thought unstructured was easy and started with it. I wish to solve the problem using ANSYS FLUENT solver.

Thank you.

The tutorial i was speaking abt

There is a tutorial on the same in icem help with structured mesh.

Hi FAR thanks for the reply.

I checked the help file but the geometry itself is confusing and i am a novice when it comes to ICEM CFD. I've seen your videos on youtube for various geometries. Could you make a video for the geometry i posted? I would send u the .prt file if needed.

1. The idea is same and you have more fins as compared to the tutorial. I have applied my own method and it is different than shown in help.

2. First you have to create the wedge block and then apply either Y block from edit block or from create block > from vertices > quarter O-grid. For later step you have to delete the blocks inside the fins. please note it is for the blocks inside the fins.

3. Now associate edge, vertices and faces (yes you have to associate faces explicitly for gridfin surfaces)

4. Now use multiple extrude along curve option to extend blocking towards the complete domain

5. Now associate edge to curves and vertices to points. No need to associate faces to surfaces explicitly.

Thats all. Just 10 min
