Issues in exporting mesh from Meshing to ICEM CFD

Hi All
I have made a geometry in DesignModeler and meshed in Ansys Meshing. When I export it to ICEM CFD, names that I have given to faces and body vanish. The reason to export is to export the mesh to OpenFOAM as the intersection curve of two pipes does not come out proper in it. Same is the reason for not building it in ICEM CFD. Ansys Meshing "mesh" gives many errors while converting to OpenFoam whereas ICEM CFD converts good. It also gives a material point on its own which I have not defined in Meshing. Also the part symmetry becomes SOLID_PART_1. Can anyone tells me how to import Meshing "mesh" in ICEM that is as perfect as if it is built in ICEM without any issues. Regards |

When I build a mesh in the workbench mesh module and export to ICEM, I go to File > export > save as type > ICEM CFD input files (.prj) then read it in directly.
I discovered last night that doing it this way results in the geometry being disconnected from the mesh that was generated in WB. To fix this, I go to Edit Mesh > Repair Mesh > Associate Mesh With Geometry. Please let me know if this works for you as I'm quite curious. I'm currently in the process of figuring out an easier way to create a structured hex mesh without having to resort to ICEM blocking. Are you trying to do something similar? |

In my case, when I try to associate mesh with geometry, and click on "spectacle" insted of selecting elements, it says selecting and does not select anything which I click middle mouse button. Also, I do the same to export it to ICEM the way you do but the biggest problem is that all part names on which I have to apply boundary connections vanish, like inlet, outlet, symmetry. All that remains is Solid_Part_1. In order to define in and out BC, I must have all part names. My mesh is, as far as I think, is intact.
As for your problem, in Ansys-Meshing if you mesh with MultiZone method, in details window, go to advanced, there are two ICEM CFD options. Check both, there might be a solution to your problem as I am a beginner and cannot fully grasp your problem. |

Have you seen this video?
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=roZNU...%3DroZNUbhFVJ0 It appears that to make the named selections carried over, it's a check box that you need to select. My issue with multi zone is that it contains unstructured parts if it cannot achieve a fully structured mesh. According to the help files, i believe the built in mesher only makes a fully structured mesh with sweep method. |

I cannot see any checkbox ticked except in Part names which is the problem. I cannot get part names in ICEM which I created in Ansys Meshing.

I have contacted Ansys. They are saying, in Release 14.5, ICEM CFD is integrated in Ansys Meshing. Perhaps now this issue can be resolved. I do not have it myself but for the time being, if you have 14.5, you can try and resolve your problem
