Hey,

I have a 3D geometry of a wing with swept, wing taper, dihedral angle, and a winglet at the tip. I've meshed the same wing without the winglet and I've had no problems with elements quality and distortion. The problem comes when I include the winglet at the tip since the blocking strategy, I guess, is not the appropriate and produces highly inverted elements near the winglet surrounding zone.

Attached are three images. The first one shows the geometry of the wing and part of the rectangular box that represents the boundaries of the fluid domain. The second and third ones show blocking strategies I tried to use to generate the premesh.

Hope any of you can give me an advice for a better blocking strategy or any other suggestion is welcomed.

Good case to brush up the ICEM skills

This geometry is not difficult to block.

Yes, it may not be but I'm a beginner in ICEM and I have no such experience in meshing this kind of geometries.

create the necessary blocking including ogrid. Use the blocks which are going along the wing for the o-grid creation. I will tell you how to tackle the winglet issue.

use this initial blocking sent through pm

Hi Far and everybody else in the forum,

I've been working on my project and with the help of Far I achieved to get a decent blocking topology.

Files are hosted in the following:
http://www.4shared.com/file/7CuRaV3b/wing_winglets.html
http://www.4shared.com/file/B_s2bFkc..._01_NOV27.html

I dealt with the necessary splittings, associations, relocating vertices, and more stuff. After a lot of problems related with inverted blocks, yesterday I came up with a mesh that had uncovered faces and manifold edges. Today I think I improved a little bit the topology I had and now I face another problem. You guys can see what the geometry look like in figure 1.

I hope you guys can give me some advices to solve this and finally export generate the mesh for fluent. The problem is in the tip of the winglet where I did put an Y-block that extends from the tip up to the top boundary (figure 2, 3, and 4). The angle premesh quality criterion shows that the elements of this Y-block have a very acute angle.

I tried to put an O-grid in this block selecting the rhombus face seen in figure 3 at the tip and the rhombus face at the top wall but it didn't solve the problem. Then, I tried converting the rhombus block to free and change the type of mesh in the both rhombus faces but it didn't work as. I hope you guys can help me here with some suggestions. Any idea is very grateful.

Regards

I can't see the pics!

You can also upload your tin/blocking file and I'll help you out on Monday.

Hi energy382,

Thank you very much for your interest in my problem. I fixed the problem with the pictures. The links for the blk and tin were above but I can retype them for you.

damn, there went something terribly wrong.

you have several superblocks and degenerated blocks. that's very time-consuming to correct.

i'm currently busy on my own project, but maybe s.o else can help you.

if not, i'll come backt to you next week
