Hello ....
I made a 3d model of double pipe with helical fin around the inner tube in gambit but i can not mesh it.helical fin made it hard to mesh .can any one help me? here's the picture of 3d model Last edited by mozafarie; November 5, 2012 at 16:08. Reason: modify text |

did you model the thickness of thin?
Or is it designed as a baffle? What kind of error did you get? Can you post picture with shaded mode on

A description of the error would be nice, I agree with mAx. Have you tried to mesh it using the hex/cooper option, or the tet mesh?

Hi.let me explain more about problem.here's a double pipe that the fluid flows through annulus. Therefore i first created annuls then sweeped cross section of fin perpendicular to
helical curve then subtracted annulus volume from fin volume .Now i want to mesh this domain by hex element but gambit does not do any of hex element type (map, submap, tet primitive). when i chose hex/map after a little meshing this error will be appear "ERROR: volume could not be meshed without faces successfully meshed." |

If you want to mesh this with hex elements, the best thing to do is to divide the domain into smaller, simpler volumes.

I just had a look at the images - I don't think you will be able to use hex at the boundaries of your domain as the angles are very sharp.
