Hello,

I am being driven mad by DM/Meshing. I have been trying to set up a conformal mesh over my whole geometry which consists of a disk (with a whole in the middle as I have subtracted the hub) inside a large oblong channel domain (also with the hub extracted). I have attached both my DM and mesh files.

I have also set up a series of nested cylindrical bodies of interest to refine my mesh size further.

I had no issues when I wasnt dealing shared topology/parts but now I want my mesh to link nicely between regions. It all works fine until I get to my disk region. Nothing I do will make the mesh conformal across the disk to channel. I have tried grouping parts (all at once and/or in smaller groups), cutting the disk out of my channel and bodies of interest and setting contact region spacings, nothing works.

If anyone could tell me where I am going wrong that would be great!

thanks in advance!

Susan

can you clarify which region will contain the mesh and which does not.

I'm not an expert in ansys meshing, but can you try the file i attached.
You had overlapping bodies and surfaces.

Hello,

thanks for getting back to me! Everything except inside the hub needs meshed. Is that what you are asking? Though after meshing I should only have two possible choices for domains: channel and disk, the rings are purely for bodies of influence and drop out as such when I set them in ansys meshing.

I should mention that I am using v12. Had a look at your link (does the video have sound or is it my laptop?) but I dont recognise anything as what I get to look at when I mesh things, will try and interpret what I can though. Anything that might help me is worth a go!

Thank you for the geometry file but it doesn't seem to want to open on my version of ANSYS (v12) is that something at my end? I just get a generic load failure message when I try to open it :-(

what i did is adding boolean operation on your bodies. try substracting bodies. Keep the tool body by selection yes in "preserve tool body." do this for all the bodies that have bodies inside them (sounds weird...)
Can you try that... it may help you.
the link That far shared was actually a meshing procedure done using ICEM CFD. that's why uyou are not familiar with it...

Thank you very much! I guess I couldn't see for staring.

Thank you Diamondx for your help. I now have a lovely conformal mesh but I can no longer use the rings as bodies of influence it seems. Is that just how it works? I can either use bodies of influence or have a conformal mesh? Seems odd to me.

Update: Figured it out. Thanks again!
