Hi,
I’m trying to use ANSYS Workbench 12.1 for CFD applications. First I import the geometry file (.stp). Then I right-click on Mesh to update or refresh, but I keep having this error message: “Unable to attach to geometry file”. I have the same error if I open Meshing after importing the geometry file.
I tried to find similar posts on the forum but I couldn't find something.

Thank you very much

Jérémie

I tried with iges format, but still the same error message "unable to attach to geometry" when I try to open Meshing or update in WB.

hmm it should not be a problem... you can import directly part file file of solidwork in designmodeler, try it ! i can't verify your file since i dont have access to solidworks here...

Hum... I tried with a simple geometry (a 3D pipe) created directly in DesignModeler. But when I open Meshing, I have this same error message : "Unable to attach to geometry file".

I read something on the Internet about Internet Explorer settings, but I'm not sure... Could it be related to the installation of ANSYS? Or the license? though all the other ANSYS software (DM, ICEM CFD, Fluent) are working correctly on my computer.

Thank you very much

Jérémie

that is in fact weird. i could load your geometry in ansys meshing without any problem.
i even could see your error. after i double clicked to try, it worked. I googled that and some say that it may be an error due to the installation of ansys: it has to be done under administrator rights.
In one forum i did found some directions:
Quote:
I solved it (I built up the geometry in the DesignModeler, and the Mechanical Model didn't start. Error message: "Plugin error: Geometry interface not found" ). The solution:
1. Run the "CAD Configuration Manager 12.1".
2. Mark the "Workbench and ANSYS Geometry Interfaces"
3. Press "Next" button.
4. Press "Display Configuration Log File" button
5. Press "Configure Selected CAD Interfaces" button
6. Press "Exit" button

Run the Workbench, and it works.

HZs
the CAD configuration manager is in start menu under the ansys 13 branch, I wish i can help more...
MDB, JAISE15 and H.R.D. like this.

Hi,
I uninstalled then reinstalled ANSYS and now it works.
There are a few known issues when installing ANSYS on Windows 7. The problem seemed to be that ANSYS was installed in C:\Users\username instead of Program Files.

To avoid this problem, you have to turn off User Account Control and IPv6 before installing ANSYS.

Thanks again Ali for your help

i guess you are using icem cfd ? import the geometry using workbench reader... of course the tin file does not exist because you don't have one, this happens when you click on import geometry . try STEP/IGES/parasolid.

It could be simply because you do not have a valid 'Design modeler' license. The 'can not attach....' error is common when you are missing valid Ansys modules or module licenses.

I tried this but still this error is there..
I made a simple cube in design moduler and saved it.
when taking mesh it starts and goes away automatically
and then a x mark in mesh.
I tried cad configuration and also even reinstalled ansys still the issue is there...
