Hi guys,

I want to know how can I achieve a similar kind of meshing (webbed) as in these pictures. It is a horizontal column of water, 10x10 meter in cross-section and 80 meters long with turbine inside. I tried Body of Influence but am not getting a similar result with Hex Dominant (Quad) method.

Any help will be appreciated.

not an ansys meshing expert, i think you need to try "surface mapped"

The mapped face meshing is not working.. If there is a way/setting to achieve can anyone let me know..

Thanks.

Insert "sizing"> select the 4 edges > num of divisions

Put the same number for all the sides for now...say 25

Insert "mapped face" mesh on that face

Insert "Method" > "Sweep" >put 100 divisions for now

That should get you close. For these steps the order matters.

i draw the 2d model in the ansys when i did meshing on it, it show 3d figure in meshing but in geometry it show 2d.... so what i do...... help me

when meshing a 2d geometry. sketch has to be done in XY plane. Very important. when you close the geometry window, in the workbench look a the right panel and select 2D instead of 3d in geometry properties. have you done that ?

This looks like it is a structured O-Grid with a mapped/swept quad block at the center. This s a very difficult mesh to replicate without hours of training and experimenting. If you MUST duplicate this mesh, you will need to learn how to use a structured grid generator like ICEM.

I am not confident that you can duplicate this with Ansys Mesher, I will be pleasently suprised if you or someone else manages to do it though.

This can be easily done in ansys meshing by slicing the geometry into the appropriate parts.

If you slice the geometry before immediately before and after the object in the flow field, you should be able to take the 2D mesh that you generated with the "mapped mesh" and extrude it through the domains using the sweep function. After that you can use the ansys, automeshing features to develop an conformal, yet unstructured mesh around the object. Then insert "inflation" to those faces to resolve the boundary layer. If you choose the correct sizing parameters (layer thickness based on some derivative of a y+), that should produce a mesh of acceptable quality regardless of the application. The only critical thing to do here is make sure the two domains are meshed first so that the unstructured mesh will conform to the common boundary nodes.
