How to create a cross section in a mesh

I have created a mesh for a cylinder with some internals, I want to visualize the internal meshing but with an automatic cross-section creation (ex. by identifying the coordinates or any similar method) not like a new section plane which gives a manual (not smooth) cross section of the geometry.
