ICEM Meshing :specified nodes along curve did not appear

Hi,
Can anybody help me with this problem? I'm creating a mesh for a weird airfoil using surface mesh. I can't use the blocking method in ICEM because the geometry is too complex. What I did was the following: 1. Create a surface of the whole domain. 2. Segment/trim the airfoil from the surface. 3. Delete the airfoil. 4. Go global mesh and set to patch dependent, tri; 5. Curve mesh setup, clicked the curves delineating my airfoil and set the number of nodes. 6. Compute mesh. After that i found that my leading edge only consisted of 4 to 5 mesh nodes making it look rather clunky and not smooth. I specified at least 30 nodes in that region but somehow ICEM cannot seem to do this. What am i doing wrong?edge001.jpg |

Try patch-independent option.

hi yonchong,
I cant use patch independent because i'm trying to get a periodic boundary condition. I tried it already but ended up with a mesh that has no periodic boundaries ( even though i specified it). Also a patch independent mesh leaves big meshes within the domain. |

Are you sure about the periodic boundary condition and patch independent? I thought it was the other way around. If you use patch dependent you will not have the periodic boundary condition because you are using the surface geometries to build a surface mesh.
The patch independent uses Octree Volume mesher and then delete the volume mesh when it finishes leaving only a surface mesh. In fact, you could do the Octree Volume meshing and then manually delete the volume mesh to have the surface mesh only. The periodic boundary condition should be there because you are building the volume mesh initially for this. If I were you I will try again. |
