Cottbus is on a distinguished road
Hi,

I have a very compley geometry with internal ribs.

In this geometry there 100 different tags for the surfaces.
My problem is when I export my geometry from UG NX 6.0 to IGES
I can import the geometry with the correct tags in ICEM 14, but with holes everywhere and the surfaces look very ugly. It is not possible to mesh it.

If I export the geometry with parasolid and import it in ICEM. I get a very nice geometry with no holes, and I can mesh it. But in this case there is only part_1, I loose all my tags.
How can I import the full geometry in parasold with tags. I dont have any options for import or export..
Do I need to convert my solid body to sheet body??

Regards,

BN

Maybe try ACIS (*.sat) as a better format.

Of course the best way would be to use the UG file directly, but not everyone has access to the UG reader...

Best regards,

Simon

Interesting article, but I don't think it really says which is better.

I will though I have typically found that ACIS is better. When a customer asks me what format to send, CAD is the best, ACIS is second and IGES is the worst. Parasolid is somewhere between ACIS and IGES.

Now maybe that reflects our ability to read these formats more than the formats themselves...

I know that ICEM works on parasolid kernel as well as other ANSYS products. Therefore it should better suit. However ACIS has more options for CAD modelling as article says.
