Tetrahedral mesh from rectilinear grid

Hi all,
We have a 3D domain described by a rectilinear grid (3 arrays of x, y and z coordinates). Each brick is assigned to one of the materials. From this we need to create a tetrahedral mesh (simple dividing each brick into 5 or 6 tetras is ok at this moment) and assign materials correctly. As far as I understand, the best way is to convert this rectilinear grid in some format that ICEM can export, then export it and create tetra mesh from hexa. Could someone suggest the most convenient format for this? (and how to deal with materials...) Thanks for your help! |

Hi dizzy,
I'm not sure I understand your problem. You want to create tetrahedral mesh on this rectilinear grid. Since you want to divide the domain into bricks of different material (meaning there will be internal walls or interfaces of some sort), it may be better to use Ansys Workbench and by pass ICEM completely. You can import or build your geometry in Design Modeller and asign different material properties to each different section. There are quite a few tutorials in Ansys on how to do that. I hope this helps? Cheers, Christa |

Hi Christa,
Thank you for your answer. The domain now is given by bricks. We don't have any geometric walls of surfaces, all we have are bricks of different materials. I want to import it in ICEM (also we have a license for GAMBIT, so we can use any of these two) and mesh. There are 20 materials so what I want is to get a geometry with 20 different sections. Best, |
