Hello everybody,

I am new to Gambit and I would like to import a 3D drawing from Solidworks into Gambit, I tried ACIS,Parasolid and STEP format files, but nothing could be shown in Gambit!
what would be the problem?

Thank you in advance,

bahar.

Actually not!
I've heard somewhat about cleaning up the solid file, what does it mean? may it be related to my problem?

Thanks for your attention,

bahar.

Then you should get any info like:
Imported: 1 ACIS BODY(s), 0 FACE(s), 0 EDGE(s), 0 VERTEX(es)
Do yo get 0 body, 0 face and 0 vertex?

Once you imported your geometry, try to delete any vertex, edge, surface or volume.
By clicking on the fat black arrow (right next to the yellow rectangle), you will get the list of entities which are in your session.

Dear mAx, thanks for your attention!

I've found such a command by clicking on the fat black arrow: ''save file is from a later version of Acis''
I'm working with Solid 2012 and using Gambit 2.3.16. what should I do?

bahar.

Hi bahar,
is your license OK? I have a same problem with .CATPART. I found that my license is not perfect.

Hi everyone,
adambarfi, It seems that the licence works correctly. I received such a message in Gambit: ''save file is from a later version of Acis''

dearali911, I do not receive this message. Maybe adambarfi could help you!

So I imported your step file, and I get a cylinder with ř1.73 and height 1

Wow! Thank for good news!
Which version of Gambit do you use mAx?

2.4.6
But if you wanted to import such a simple geometry... you can build it direct in gambit, by creating a cylinder

Thank you dear mAx
I finally imported the geometry in Gambit.
But there's another question! In the ACIS file only bodies are known for Gambit.
What is the best way to create faces, edges and etc? Is it accurate using points?

it depends on what you want to build
You can build simple volumes directly (cylinder, sphere, torus, rectangle, etc...)
bahar likes this.

My final geometry is a helical blade, So it is not easy to create in Gambit.
What should I do?

post a picture of what you want to build in gambit
Else build it in a cad package and export the final volume as STEP file in gambit

It is a vertical axis wind turbine, I understand that Gambit has detected faces, edges and etc by getting information.
The next question is about how to mesh it?
Thank you dear mAx for your helps

it sounds you have already build it in gambit, don't you?
is it your final geometry you want to compute? I mean you need fluid flowing around the blades?

Yes, that's right.
I need flow around blades and I do not know how to mesh such a complex geometry!

do you have surfaces or volumes topology?
In your case you only need to create your outer domain (lets say a box), and then you substract the box with your blades.
The result will be the box with blades as hollow.

hi bahar . i had the same problems months ago. u d better export the file in sldworx as igs file . then import igs file in gambit activating naitve choice .
now you have the faces ready . just convert the faces to real faces and create volumes using the faces .

according to your geometry you , i think you cant have a very good mesh in gambit . maybe use quad/tri mesh for faces then tgrid mesh for volumes .
