try Boolean to create subtract bodies and then preserve them.
Boolean
Operation: Subtract
Preserve tool bodies?: Yes

Default Symmetry/mirror feature in Design modeler workbench

Hello folks,

I created a 3D geometry. I would like to use symmtery/mirror application as I draw half of my domain. It seems this feature should be available in design modeler as it is a basic one but can not find it. Any idea would be appreciated!

Hi Hooman,

You dont need to create other half.
Run your simulation on current geometry just give Boundary condition of "Symmetry" on the symmetry surface.

Dear Kapi,

Thanks for the reply. Basically I want to use it inside a full 3d geometry and the figure I showed, is about 1/9 of the geometry. I would be grateful if you could still help me to mirror the geometry to both x and y planes.

Kapa,

I found it. I needed to use "mirror" from body transformation.
In order to copy the geometry you need to use "pattern".

Hi,

If you just want to see the results after running the simulation, you can use mirror option in fluent or in the CFD post to see the full geometry.

"Add Frozen" and "Form New Part" is OK for a combination of solid and fluid bodies.
The interfaces would become "Coupled" automatically.
However, if the two bodies are of the same type (fluid or solid) and you need multiple cell zones, these operations would not work.

Following the tutorial found in the official site, I tried "Mesh control," but it said
"
writing contact_region-src (type interface) (mixture) ... Done.
writing contact_region-trg (type interface) (mixture) ... Done.
writing sliding-interface contact_region ... Done
"

Does it matter? and what's the difference? I don't know.
Could someone help?

"Add Frozen" just prevents intersected bodies from union. "Form New Part" just makes multibody part from bodies in order to create conformal mesh in AM. Designation of bodies as "Fluid" & "Solid" is mainly for visualisation purpose, fluid makes body transparent. I don't think it affects anything else.

You can also use Boolean function
- Create > Boolean : Select subtract , select the target and tool bodies; For the option preserve tool bodies -select 'yes'

Doing this will give you 2 separate bodies

I have the same problem. I would like to create different parts ( different connected volume) but all being part of one body. I have not found anything on the forum.

I am not sure what you meant.

You can have different bodies in one part n order to make a conformal mesh and let FLUENT take care of the interfaces automatically. If you make different parts, you will end up in a non-conformal mesh and you need to assign the interfaces manually.

Hi enayath,

thanks for your reply. I have got the geometry that I have attached. I was able to create a single body with different parts which should be connected. I don't have any problem if I want to create a simple tetrahedral mesh. However if I want to create a hexahedral mesh the mesh software keeps giving me an error and I do not understand why. Please can you help me ?

You need to play with the "settings". Try Multizone instead of automatic and set everything to fine instead of coarse. You may also need to decrease the min length or face size in the settings.
