BELLEVUE, WA — January 7, 2008 — Tecplot, Inc., the developer of Tecplot data visualization and technical plotting solutions, announces the immediate availability of Tecplot 360 2008, its flagship product for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical simulation visualization.
One of the more significant new features is Python scripting, which was created specifically for engineers who require additional analysis (FFTs, splines, statistical functions, etc.) or more scripting flexibility. Python is an open-source, object-oriented programming language that offers strong support for integration with other languages and tools and comes with extensive standard libraries. Tecplot 360 2008 users can now leverage the extensive set of open-source libraries that are now available.
“Python scripting extends Tecplot 360’s post-processing capabilities by allowing access to the powerful libraries available in the Python programming language,” says Mike Peery, president and CEO of Tecplot, Inc. “In addition, it also provides users with a portable method with which to automate Tecplot 360.”
Tecplot 360 2008’s new features also include:
- Native, arbitrary polyhedral element support. Many engineers and scientists who perform CFD analyses are using polyhedral grids as a way to preserve accuracy, but are using smaller meshes to increase the speed of the analysis run. Tecplot 360 2008 natively loads polyhedral meshes for data from sources such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and Tecplot’s own format.
- X3D export. Share 3D results in the X3D open source standard.
- New add-ons. Tecplot 360 2008 includes add-ons to synchronize transient animations among multiple frames, perform a time-series plot, extract over time, and edit solution time.
Pricing and Availability: Tecplot 360 2008 is available for Windows (XP, Vista), Mac OS X, Linux, and UNIX. Annual license pricing starts at $3,000 in the U.S.
