The importance of air conditioning energy conservation is often a secondary consideration, compared to our comfort, until we realize a negative impact. In Japan, energy consumption by residential and commercial buildings was found to consume one third of the total energy used by the entire country. Of this, half of commercial energy use was from air conditioning. Japan's limited natural resources makes it imperative to conserve energy. Hence, optimizing air conditioning performance and energy usage are critical.

In this narrated interview, Dr. Gyuyoung Yoon, Associate Professor at Nagoya City University, discusses how coupling Cradle scSTREAM CFD software with a one-dimensional Life Cycle Energy Mangement (LCEM) tool accounts for three-dimensional temperature distributions in a building. This provides a more accurate assessment of the energy being used, and enables exploration of design solutions to further reduce air conditioning energy consumption.
