Flow Science and Tecplot Inc. are offering an eSeminar to demonstrate the combined power of their respective software solutions in tackling defect locations in castings using powerful modeling and post-processing tools. Two case studies will be presented:
Case 1: Simulation of Steel Casting Anomaly
A medium-sized foundry was having problems with a relatively small casting where gaseous anomalies were forming on some of the cope surfaces. Suspecting that hot spots were developing during pouring and generating excess mold gas, the foundry used simulation to determine if this was the cause.
Case 2: Simulation of an Aluminum Engine Block Made by Lost Foam Casting
A large foundry was plagued with porosity in their top-selling engine block, with scrap rates often reaching 80%. With lost foam casings, the burning of the foam by the liquid metal during pouring does not always proceed as imagined, so the foundry turned to simulation to resolve critical anomalies.
Highlights will include:
- Dynamically making changes to your displayed results (no re-rendering)
- Using multiple mesh blocks to effectively capture a domain
- Looking at 3D views with planes and slices
- Working with the FLOW-3D FAVOR and TruVOF methods
- Using surface contours to locate high-defect regions
- Eliminating the extra step of writing out a third-party file format
- Seamlessly interfacing with Microsoft Office to present your results
