3 July 2007) -- Flomerics has added thermal models of Sunon’s “Mighty Mini” fans and blowers to its SmartParts3D website (http://www.smartparts3d.com). Engineers can streamline the thermal design process by downloading these new models and incorporating them into thermal simulations. This approach is more accurate than making rough estimates from a paper chart because SmartParts3D models have the exact point-by-point values of the fan curve. “Many of our customers are already saving time and money by downloading pre-built thermal models of our products for use in their systems models,” said Eline Roussel, Marketing Manager for Sunon Europe, Fresnes, France. “By providing SmartParts3D models of the world’s smallest fans we are supporting engineers who are designing a new generation of mobile devices that are dramatically changing global lifestyles.”
Mighty Mini Fans measure only 8 x 8 x 5 mm and 9 x 9 x 3 mm so they can provide cross airflow in micro-sized chassis used in mobile devices. These products meet the heat dissipation requirements of next-generation personal digital assistants (PDAs), smart phones, global positioning system (GPS) devices and hand-held computers. Sunon's Mighty Mini fans use a MagLev system incorporating Vapo bearings, which virtually eliminate friction by using magnetic attraction to position the shaft without the need for physical contact with the housing. MagLev fans have low noise, withstand high temperatures, and have a long life span. Sunon has sold over 100 million MagLev fans.
In addition to Sunon, Alpha Novatech, Bergquist, Brady, Chomerics, Comair Rotron, Delta, Dow Corning, EBM Industries, ETRI, Honeywell Electronic Materials, HS Marston Aerospace, JMC Products, Mechatronics Fan Group, Micronel, NMB Technologies, Papst, Philips Semiconductors, Thermagon, ThermalWorks, Universal Air Filters, YS Tech, and many other companies have contributed data to the SmartParts3D library, located at www.SmartParts3D.com. The library is searchable by part family, description, manufacturer, model number, and performance criteria. Models can be downloaded from the website and imported into Flotherm, which has become the standard tool for design and optimization of cooling systems for electronics equipment with a user base twice that of all competitors combined.
