New York & London. May 16, 2007: Today, CD-adapco announced that they will be demonstrating their solutions for 3D simulations of wind turbines and wind farms at All Energy ’07. Dubbed the “AGM of the renewable energy industry”, the conference brings together over 350 companies and 180 speakers from across the sector, on the 23rd and 24th May 2007, in Aberdeen, UK. CD-adapco will be exhibiting simulations used in the design of wind turbines, innovative turbine shrouds and complete wind farms using STAR-CCM+: their “next generation” Computational Fluid Dynamics (or CFD) software.
CD-adapco’s presence at All Energy marks the rapid increase in the use of 3D Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) by the alternative energy industry. As companies seek to improve the performance and durability of their designs, they are increasingly turning to CAE as a cost effective engineering tool. One example is the design of wind turbines, where engineers aim to simultaneously increase power output and turbine durability. Wingring, a start-up wind turbine design house, has recently used STAR-CCM+ to improve the design of shrouded turbines. The simulations provided detailed insight into the aerodynamics of the turbine as well as the force loading on it, enabling them to identify good, and rule out bad, designs.
Dr Dennis Nagy, CD-adapco’s Vice President of Business Development and Director for the Energy Sector states CD-adapco’s commitment to all energy, “It’s clear that to meet the world’s energy needs in a sustainable manner, engineers will have to deliver a lot of new, robust technology. Over the past 25 years, we have enabled energy engineers to do just that in the ‘traditional’ energy sectors. Now we’re applying our technology and expertise to renewable energy sources, such as wind and wave power.”
CD-adapco is the leading global provider of full-spectrum engineering simulation solutions for fluid flow, heat transfer and stress, including CFD software, CAD-embedded CFD options, CAE consulting services and training.
