INTELLIGENT LIGHT RELEASES FIELDVIEW 9

Software Upgrade Marks First Major Client-Server Development in CFD Post-Processing Industry in Ten Years

Lyndhurst, NJ (July 30, 2003) – Intelligent Light, a leading provider of visualization software products and services for the scientific and engineering industries, today announced the launch of FIELDVIEW 9, a major upgrade of its post-processing software for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applications. FIELDVIEW 9 represents the first major development in ten years in client-server capability in the CFD post-processing industry and is also the first software to offer partial integration, among many other new developments.

“Many years of research, customer feedback and competitive analysis went into this new iteration of FIELDVIEW,” said Steve M. Legensky, Founder and General Manager of Intelligent Light. “The result is an unparalleled product that takes advantage of the latest software and hardware, and offers incredible flexibility and ease of use in any working environment.”

New Native Client-Server Technology FIELDVIEW 9 is based on a re-architecture of Intelligent Light’s software that allows multi-process client-server operation, including the ability to manage data across remote or local networks and to read and manipulate extremely large files. For example, companies can access and work with data stored in remote locations, data that often cannot be moved or must be kept secure. Additionally, engineers and scientists can work with extremely large files, including those encompassing more than 100 million nodes, using only a desktop or laptop computer. Finally, the system is so dynamic and flexible that engineers can recalculate with up-to-the-minute data.

"Our clients are using CFD to explore very extensive design spaces which are complex in terms of physics and very large in terms of model size," said Dr. Matthew Godo, FIELDVIEW Product Manager for Intelligent Light. "The trend is moving towards transient analyses and process optimizations, thereby adding further complexity. They use the latest hardware environments, which include increasingly popular Linux clusters and other powerful compute servers and store their data remotely. The new Client-Server capabilities in FIELDVIEW 9 are therefore absolutely critical in enabling our users to interactively visualize and comprehend the information contained in these ambitious CFD simulation projects."

Partial Integration This new feature, exclusive to FIELDVIEW, will allow the user to perform integration on any distinct area of a surface. Surface selection is simple and intuitive, performed on the graphical user interface with a simple mouse-click. The feature can be used to perform mass flow calculations along the axis of even the most complicated manifold geometries. For example, the automotive industry could use the feature to focus on the manifold that takes exhaust gases away from the cylinder in an engine. A plane can be passed through the manifold, thus creating a cross section of circles, any of which can be the focus of the partial integration feature.

In addition to several smaller changes, another significant new feature of FIELDVIEW 9 is double precision (DP) and implicit byte swapping for PLOT3D. This feature allows double precision files to be converted on the fly during read in. FIELDVIEW also automatically detects and handles non-native byte order in Unformatted, DP Unformatted and Binary PLOT3D files. These new features eliminate the need to convert solver output to single precision for post-processing.

Current users of FIELDVIEW 8 will find the upgrade to FIELDVIEW 9 seamless, as the software is designed to have a consistent feel from one release to the next. If a new user is introduced to the software with FIELDVIEW 9, the intuitive approach allows the user to be up and running in only one hour, compared to the weeks or months required to become proficient on most other CFD software.
