FLUENTŪ 6.1 Brings Powerful New Modeling Capabilities to the Automotive Industry

Fluent Inc., the world's largest provider of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and consulting services, announces the availability of FLUENT 6.1.

This version of FLUENT brings new possibilities for modeling fuel injectors, IC engines, valves, and other moving equipment with its dynamic mesh modeling capability. Users simply set up the initial mesh, prescribe the motion, and sit back and watch as FLUENT automatically changes the mesh to follow the motion. "FLUENT can now easily simulate physical phenomena previously requiring tedious manual preparation," says Fluent's Chief Technology Officer, Dipankar Choudhury. "The applications for dynamic mesh modeling are limitless. Our users are thinking of new ways to use it all the time," he adds.

FLUENT 6.1 incorporates a new cavitation model which is accurate even under very high pressure conditions and new reaction modeling functionality targeted for exhaust system design. IC engine modeling capabilities are further enhanced by crevice and spray-wall interaction models. Also, FLUENT 6.1 offers dynamic coupling capability with WAVE (Ricardo) - in addition to GT-Power (Gamma Technologies, Inc.) and Virtual Engines (Optimum Power Technology).

Other major enhancements include a leading-edge, built-in acoustics modeling capability that lets users perform "on the fly" sound calculations. Also, significant efficiency gains in the surface-to-surface radiation model and the inclusion of a volumetric macro-based heat exchanger model, expand the applicability of CFD for underhood thermal management analysis.

Pricing and Availability FLUENT 6.1 is available on UNIX, NT, and Linux platforms. It is provided at no additional cost to all current FLUENT users who have chosen to purchase upgrades along with their FLUENT license. FLUENT license fees are determined by the number of processes that a user requires. Annual license fees include unlimited technical support.
