We are delighted to announce that the 6th European and African Conference on Wind Engineering will be held at Cambridge, UK, from July 7-11 2013. EACWE 2013 will be the 6th in a series of European and African conferences organised on a four-year cycle under the auspices of the International Association of Wind Engineering (IAWE). The first EACWE was held in Guernsey in 1993 and was followed by conferences in Genoa (1997), Eindhoven (2001), Prague (2005) and Florence (2009). 2013 will be a significant year for Wind Engineering, marking the 50th anniversary of the first international conference, held in Teddington, UK. That conference was possibly the birth of Wind Engineering as a discipline and has led to a highly successful series of International and Regional conferences run under the umbrella of the International Association for Wind Engineering. Keynote lectures will be presented by well renowned experts in the field and will involve a degree of reflection on how Wind Engineering has developed over the last 50 years. Hence, the conference will be highly memorable and is expected to attract around 200 delegates from around the world.
Keynote speakers
Prof B Blocken - 40 years of Computational Wind Engineering: Past, present and future Prof C Borri - Wind effects on Bridges Prof C Letchford - Wind effects on Buildings Prof M Kasperski - Wind Loading Design Codes Prof G Diana - Wind Tunnel Testing
Call for papers Papers are invited from researchers and practitioners on any topic in wind engineering, including: • Bluff body aerodynamics • Computational wind engineering • Field monitoring, full scale and wind tunnel measurements • Flow structure interactions • Human comfort and built environment • Linear and non-linear response of structures to wind • Pollution dispersion • Wind climate and the atmospheric boundary layer • Wind energy • Wind loading codes and standards • Windborne debris • Wind blown sand and snow drifts • Wind effects on glass and cladding • Reliability and risk assessment • Sails and sailing
Authors are invited to submit four-page extended abstracts. EACWE aims for the highest scientific standards and all extended abstracts will be fully reviewed and subject to revision if necessary prior to acceptance at the conference. The scope of the conference covers both the latest scientific and technical developments and also their application in Wind Engineering practice. Both academics and practitioners are welcome at EACWE.
Key dates • 30 April 2012 online submission abstracts opens • 31 July 2012 online registration opens • 31 July 2012 deadline for 4 page extended abstracts
