Ansys Inc. and AEA Technbology today announced that they have reached an agreement for Ansys to aquire the CFX business from AEA Technology. The agreed price is 12.5 million GBP. For comparison, the CFX business last year had a total sales of 13 million GBP and made an operating loss of 1.8 million GBP after exceptional items.
This follows after the previos announcement from AEA in June 2001 that the CFX business was for sale. Two years ago Ansys also bought ICEM CFD.
This could be the start of a consolidation wave in the CFD/CAE/CAD sector. With both CFX and ICEM-CFD under the Ansys flag competition in the CFD sector will certainly increase. Other players will have to start looking for partners to stay competitive.
