NUMECA's FINE™/Marine has been selected by two companies competing in the 34th America’s Cup
Two challengers have placed their trust in NUMECA's CFD Solution FINE™/Marine for its advanced capabilities and superior quality and accuracy in their bids to bring home a winning result for their team during the 34th America’s Cup, to be held in San Francisco in 2013!
Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) was the first to select NUMECA’s FINE™/Marine as its chosen Computational Fluid Dynamic solution for hydrodynamic analysis for the race back in 2011. Dr Len Imas is full of appreciation for the benefits of using FINE™/Marine, stating:
“After considering various free-surface capturing CFD tools for hydrodynamic analysis applications involving high performance racing yachts, Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) has selected NUMECA’s FINE™/Marine as the unique Navier-Stokes based simulation suite to serve in that capacity during ETNZ’s 34th America’s Cup design campaign. We believe that in comparison to alternatives, FINE™/Marine produces consistently higher fidelity solutions across a very broad range of sailing conditions thereby making it the analysis tool of choice.”
Luna Rossa Challenge 2013 recently became the second America’s Cup competitor to select FINE™/Marine as the only CFD solution. Roberto Biscontini, Yacht Designer, explained his team’s choice, saying:
“We believe that FINE™/Marine will contribute to give us the technical edge we are seeking for being amongst the top competitors of the 34th America’s Cup. This, together with the support from NUMECA International and its partner K-Epsilon, as well as the excellent working relationship we have with both companies, are a key assets to have on board in this competition.”
With such high praise all that remains is for NUMECA to thank both companies for their confidence in FINE™/Marine and to raise a glass to the success of these two great challengers!
May the best yacht win!
