General information
The DLR Institute of Combustion Technology at Stuttgart, Germany, will organize a workshop on ‘URANS methods to predict fluctuating heat transfer’ in the frame of the European Research Training Network FLUISTCOM. Invited speakers from academia and industry will present latest research results and their special experience in the field of the prediction of fluctuating heat transfer by means of URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes) methods including couplings of URANS with LES-methods.
Attention will be paid to all types of fluctuating wall heat transfer with special emphasis on combustion chamber applications for clean combustion systems, since lean operation at high temperatures often suffers from severe combustion instabilities. Up to now there is not much known about the effects of such combustion oscillations on heat load of the combustor wall and thus research on this topic is needed. Besides this, other applications like oscillating heat transfer on turbine blades will also be within the scope of the workshop. (refer to http://www.dlr.de/vt/)
The FLUISTCOM project
FLUISTCOM (Fluid-Structure Interaction for Combustion Systems) is one of the first European Marie Curie RTN (Research Training Network) funded in fp6 from the European Commission, Directorate General Research. Five partners from different European countries collaborate closely in this multi-disciplinary field. The research activities in FLUISTCOM are towards improved understanding of transient combustion and its coupling with combustion wall vibration and thermal wall load. The gained knowledge is incorporated into the robust design of a new generation of high efficient gas turbines with reduced emissions. (refer to http://www.cerfacs.fr/cfd/fluistcom/)
