Keynote Speakers and Accepted Contributions Announced

The Open Source CFD International Conference, announced M. Macura, P&G, Dr. D. Schmidt, University of Massachusetts and B. Perens, Open Source Advocate, will be part of the 2010 keynote lineup at this year's conference in Munich.

Matthew Macura of Procter&Gamble, USA has been confirmed as the opening industrial keynote speaker on Thursday, 4 November. Macura, head of the technology sections at P&G's Global Process Development Facility, will talk about science & engineering questions behind everyday products.

Matthew Macura's opening session is followed by an analysis of multi-scale challenges in multiphase CFD, presented by Dr. David Schmidt, invited acadamic keynote speaker and Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Schmidt's research is in the fluid mechanics of two-phase flow. For his PhD., he studied cavitation in diesel fuel injector nozzles. Since then, he has focused more on sprays and flash-boiling. He is studying primary atomization, droplet collision, non-Newtonian atomization, and new numerical methods for sprays. His research will help diesel, gasoline, and aircraft engines operate efficiently while producing less pollution.

The third keynote of the day will be delivered by Bruce Perens, prominent open source advocate. Perens is one of the founders of the Open Source movement in software. He created the Open Source Definition and published the first formal announcement and manifesto of open source. He co-founded the Open Source Initiative.

In addition to addresses by these distinguished keynotes, the conference will feature various expert contributors in the field of Open Source CFD. A preliminary list of accepted contributions is available from www.opensourcecfd.com/conference2010/agenda/list-of-contributions.html. The final agenda will be published shortly.
