Icepak ® and Icewave™ enable Thermal-EM Co-simulation

October 18, 2005, Austin, TX, USA

Fluent Inc., the worldwide leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), announces the immediate release of Icewave™ 1.0, a three dimensional time-domain full-wave electromagnetic modeling software package. Along with the industry-leading thermal design software Icepak®, Icewave enables thermal and electromagnetic compatibility and interference (EMC/EMI) co-simulation. This capability allows designers of high-performance electronics systems to dramatically reduce the time required for EMC/EMI design and verification by simulating electronic products in a virtual environment.

Using a robust time-domain 3D full-wave Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) solver, Icewave solves broadband electromagnetic emission and interference problems and generates both transient and frequency-domain results in a single run. The fast near-to-far field translation gives accurate far-field emission results that are often measured in EMC anechoic chambers. Icewave is designed to be used over a broad range of EMC/EMI problems that include enclosure shielding, multilayer high-speed PCB decoupling, multilayer high-speed PCB radiation, aperture radiation, heatsink radiated emission, multi-boards in backplane, as well as cabling and grounding.

With a simple, intuitive and easy to use CAD-like interface, Icewave allows users to build geometric models and setup EM simulations quickly. The output of Icewave includes S, Y, Z parameters, monitored fields, surface currents on conductor surfaces and radiated far fields at given distances. Advanced visualization capabilities such as time-domain field animation, frequency-domain current distribution, 3D far-field radiation visualization and EMC plots help users quickly prototype EMC/EMI designs of electronic products based on numerical simulations in the design flow.

Icewave also shares geometry models with Icepak, the world's leading thermal analysis tool, for concurrent EM-Thermal analysis to satisfy the ever-increasing demands on time-to-market for electronic products. Icewave can import MCAD data in standard STEP, SAT, and IGES formats and Pro/E PRT and ASM files using Icepro.
