CD-adapco Wins Readers Choice award from Desktop Engineering for STAR-CD v3.24

London & New York, May 19, 2005 – CD-adapco, the leading provider of CAD-embedded flow simulation solutions today announced that STAR-CD v3.24 received the Desktop Engineering's Readers' Choice Award for May 2005.

Desktop Engineering selected the winner by determining the number of reader enquires received in response to the product announcements published in the February 2005 issue of Desktop Engineering. The STAR-CD v3.24 announcement received the most enquiries.

This latest release of CD-adapco’s CFD code, is packed with new features aimed directly at the engine-modeling world, including Extended Coherent Flame Model (ECFM) combustion models.

ECFM (ECFM and ECFM-3Z) extends CFD combustion modeling beyond the customary single mixture regime restriction of traditional combustion models. The ECFM models are equally valid whether the charge is “pre-mixed,” “partially mixed,” “non-mixed,” or any combination of these.

Jointly developed by Renault and IFP (Institut Francais du Petrole), the ECFM models are intended to address the specific combustion challenges posed by direct injection (DI) engines, such as their high degree of charge stratification. The ECFM models are said to be valid in all mixture regimes, and equally applicable for GDI engines using a spark ignition model and for HCCI and DI diesel engines using an auto-ignition model.

"Its very encouraging to know that Desktop Engineering readers, many of whom are CD-adapco customers, are interested to know more about our products," said Stephen Ferguson, Technical Marketing Manager. "This recognition is a real validation that we are communicating the CD-adapco message to the right audience."
