Ocala, Florida, December 16, 2004. Hanley Innovations, a leader in aerodynamics conceptual and preliminary design software, announces the availability of 3DFoil. 3DFoil can be used for 2-D Airfoil Analysis and 3D Tapered Wing Analysis (single wing). The 3D analysis includes aerodynamics twist, geometric twist, sweep back angles, dihedral angles and ground effect. Also, the left and right sides of the wing can have different twist, taper, airfoils, etc. Both the airfoil and 3D analysis includes NACA 4, 5, & 6-digit airfoils, general airfoils (custom) and the UIUC airfoil database. The tapered wing analysis is based on a vortex lattice method (vortex rings).
3DFoil can be considered an entry level package for quick professional tapered wing analysis, student projects or class assignments. Wings designed using 3DFoil can be read directly into MultiSurface Aerodynamics. The software can be used to compute lift, drag (induced and profile), and moments. It can also be used to estimate the maximum lift for airfoils (2D) and wings (3D).
