FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEG selects TURBOdesign Suite for leveraging the Hydraulic Turbine Design process, substantially improving its speed and efficiency.

Advanced Design Technology (ADT), a global leader in turbomachinery design software, and WEG, global electro-electronic equipment company, have joined forces to streamline and optimize the design process for hydraulic turbines. Aiming to bolster their capabilities in energy efficiency, WEG’s hydraulic design team sought a sophisticated tool to design and optimize hydraulic turbines for both new and refurbishment projects.

After extensive research, WEG identified ADT’s TURBOdesign Suite as the optimal solution due to its unique 3D Inverse Design approach and the ability to quickly generate new blade profiles with specific characteristics for each project.

"The integration within the existing CAE environment was seamless, TURBOdesign export geometries in point, surface or solid formats for all major CAD, CFD and FEA software, it also links directly to CFD and Optimization codes allowing full stage optimization even for multiple operating conditions", said Andre Eger.

"We are excited to partner with ADT as we anticipate a significant return on investment within the first year of software usage, thanks to the considerable reduction in manual work, accelerated design process and associated cost savings."

“Hydropower plays a crucial role in the current energy generation landscape by providing a reliable, renewable, and low-emission source of electricity that supports grid stability and reduces dependence on fossil fuels”, said Prof. Mehrdad Zangeneh, Managing Director of ADT and Professor of Thermofluids at University College London (UCL). “TURBOdesign has a critical role in supporting development of high efficiency and cavitation free designs across all types of hydraulic turbines.”

This collaboration between WEG and ADT marks a significant step towards revolutionizing hydraulic turbine design and optimizing energy efficiency, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and innovative future.
