Dr. Akshai Runchal, with over 50 years of experience in computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and simulations of flow, heat, and mass transport processes in engineering and environmental sciences, obtained his Ph.D. in 1969 from Imperial College (London) under the guidance of Prof. D. B. Spalding. He was a key member of the 3-person team led by Spalding that invented the Finite Volume Method (FVM) of Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the mid-1960s. Dr. Runchal has been bestowed an ASTFE Fellowship at Oregon State University, Corvallis, in 2024.
He shared insights from his nearly 50 years of journey in CFD at a podcast for CFD4Industry. Dr. Kade Beck conducted the podcast, covering many interesting topics such as the history of CFD, Dr. Brian Spalding's approach to CFD problems, attributes of successful CFD engineers, CFD interview questions, common CFD mistakes, the interplay of ML and CFD, and many more.
