Advanced Design Technology to Host a Webinar on 3D Inverse Design of a Centrifugal Compressor with Tandem-Blade Configuration
Ricardo Oliveira to host webinar demonstrating how tandem-blade centrifugal compressors can provide performance improvements in relation to conventional full blade designs.
June 6, 2023 - LONDON (UK), CHICAGO (US), MUNICH (DE), KOBE (JP) & SHANGHAI (CN)
Advanced Design Technology, Ltd. (ADT), a global leader in the development of advanced turbomachinery design methods and the TURBOdesign Suite, will be hosting an online webinar on 3D Inverse Design of a Centrifugal Compressor with Tandem-Blade Configuration.
The webinar will take place on Thursday 22nd June, 2023 at 12.00 pm (BST). During the webinar, you can discover how 3D inverse design can be used to efficiently design centrifugal compressors with tandem-blade configuration and understand how TURBOdesign1 and optimization can be used to explore the design space in order to quickly obtain optimised tandem-blade designs.
In centrifugal compressor design, previous studies have shown the potential of achieving enhanced performance through the inclusion of tandem blades. The conventional design method for this type of machines is based on splitting a baseline impeller into main and tandem blade, and applying appropriate pitch-wise and streamwise displacements. This simple design method has been proven insufficient in achieving better performance than the baseline design, without extra design modifications.
ADT has been instrumental in assisting turbomachinery firms in designing more effective turbomachines resulting in a significant decrease in CO2 emissions over the past two decades, said Professor Mehrdad Zangeneh, Director at ADT. However, it is now evident that there is a pressing need for immediate action to further reduce and eliminate carbon emissions into the atmosphere if we want to prevent irreversible environmental harm.

About TURBOdesign Suite: ADT’s TURBOdesign Suite is a unique aerodynamic and hydrodynamic 3D design software package that allows users to design, analyze and optimize all types of turbomachinery, such as axial, mixed-flow or centrifugal pumps, compressors, fans, turbines and torque converters. Using the software, designers evaluate turbomachinery package size and performance predictions; perform detailed 3D blade design with 3D inverse design capabilities; analyze flow information per component; stage performances with turbomachinery specific 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD); and automate exploration of the design space with automatic optimization capabilities.
About Advanced Design Technology, Ltd.: Advanced Design Technology (ADT) is a global leader in the development of advanced turbomachinery design methods, which help shorten development time and improve performance of turbomachinery components. Our aim is to put designers in direct control of the aerodynamic design and to considerably shorten the design time and time to market for a range of turbomachinery products. ADT’s clients, who represent some of the leading global players in the aerospace, automotive, power generation and marine fields, have achieved significant returns on investment in terms of reduction in design times, higher performance and ease of know-how transfer among different design teams and projects.
