Description:

Automotive Underhood and Underbody Thermal Modeling

Wednesday, March 1
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Fluent Training Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Course level:

advanced

Intended audience & prerequisites:

This course is for FLUENT users in the automotive industry who are interested in expanding their modeling knowledge in the areas of underhood and underbody thermal analysis. Attendees must have completed FLUENT introductory training and it is recommended that they have at least one year of experience using the software.

Course format:

lecture and hands-on tutorials

Students can expect to learn:

  • the motivation behind this type of analysis
    • Common to all CFD analysis: to reduce cost, turnaround time, in packing of underhood cooling system and other components
    • Prototype building is extremely expensive
  • preprocessing challenges typical for these applications and ways of addressing them
  • models available in FLUENT for performing underhood/underbody analyses on either component or system levels; specifically,
    • cooling package performance such as coolant inlet temperatures for a given engine power; air flow rate; total heat rejection for a given coolant inlet temperature
    • front end simulations (from grilles to engine) including component temperatures
    • complete underhood simulations
    • complete underbody simulations

Students will have hands-on workstation time to complete tutorials with Fluent training experts standing by for questions.
