This will be the 10th in a highly successful series of international conferences
that capture the current state of the art in the important field of mathematical
modeling of casting and welding processes. The modeling of casting and welding
processes has now matured to industrial recognition and application. However,
there is significant scope for further developments in the physical understanding
of solidification phenomena, the mathematical apparatus used in their description,
and the application of this knowledge to industrial processes. All interested
authors are invited to submit papers.
The conference location, Sandestin, is a resort on the Gulf of Mexico, located
close to the city of Destin, Florida. Deep-sea fishing, golfing, ocean swimming,
sailing, and snorkeling/scuba diving are the main local attractions.
The main areas of emphasis of the conference are:
- Modeling of fundamental solidification phenomena, e.g., mold filling, flow
in the mushy zone, microstructure evolution, segregation, macro- and micro-shrinkage,
deformation and stress, mechanical properties.
- Modeling of casting and related processes, e.g., gravity and counter gravity
casting, continuous casting, welding, blowing of cores and molds, investment
casting processes, infiltration in MMCs, remelting and refining processes.
- Experimental work that can be used for validation of solidification and fluid
flow models.
- Novel computational methods applicable to solidification processing, including
optimization methods.
