Distance Learning Course in DSMC.
A Distance Learning Course in the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method.
Date: March 27, 2017 - April 1, 2021
Location: United Kingdom
Web Page: http://jwfl.ac.uk/news.cfm
Contact Email: tom.scanlon@strath.ac.uk
Organizer: Dr. Tom Scanlon and Dr. Craig White
Application Areas: Aerospace
Special Fields: Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics
Softwares: OpenFOAM
Type of Event: Course, International

Description:

From hypersonic space vehicle re-entry to pressure-driven
microscale gas flows, the direct simulation Monte Carlo
(DSMC) method remains the dominant numerical approach.

This distance learning course makes use of the open
source DSMC code dsmcFoamPlus, developed at the
Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow, which has now
been enhanced to include for chemical reactions using the
quantum-kinetic (QK) approach and low-speed, pressure-
driven, microscale gas flows. The code operates in a
Linux environment.

The distance learning course consists of:

1) A comprehensive set of course notes describing the
background to the DSMC approach for high- and low-speed
applications using the enhanced version of dsmcFoamPlus.

2) Provision of the dsmcFoamPlus code and instructions
for installation.

3) A set of tutorial cases for low- and high-speed
applications including pressure-driven microscale flows
and hypersonic reacting flows.

4) On-line, forum-based support using the DSMC threads on
http://www.cfd-online.com/.
