Virtual Wave Basin: CFD in the Marine & Offshore Design Process
If you are involved in the design or operation of offshore vessels or platforms, we are holding an educational seminar you shouldn't miss. This seminar will feature presentations from leading companies in the marine and offshore industry, as well as experts from CD-adapco.
Date: September 23, 2014
Location: Houston Marriott West Loop by The Galleria, Houston, Texas, United States
Web Page: http://www2.cd-adapco.com/l/14592/2014-08-07/2hq9n5
Contact Email: brigid.blaschak@cd-adapco.com
Organizer: CD-adapco
Application Areas: Maritime, Offshore and Ship Hydrodynamics, Oil, Gas & Petrochemical, General CFD
Special Fields: Adaptivity
Softwares: STAR CCM+
Type of Event: Workshop, Local

Description:

Attend this workshop to learn more about the use of simulation to understand, improve or mitigate:
  • Vortex Induced Motion (VIM)
  • Slam loads, air gap and green water
  • Hull resistance
  • Scale-up from model to full scale
  • Hull drag and topside wind loads
  • Ringing of Tension Leg Platforms (TLPs) and Gravity Based Structures (GBSs)
  • Global performance
  • Riser Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV)
  • Sloshing loads
Offshore Floating Platforms are required to survive extreme environments like large waves and hurricane force winds over several decades of operation. Historically, designers have relied on a combination of Potential Flow codes, physical tests and experience. While each of these brings value to the design process, gaps and uncertainties remain. Advances in software and hardware technology, as well as success in validating CFD methods, mean companies routinely applying CFD or the Virtual Wave Basin in projects enable them to deliver a better product with reduced risks and uncertainties.

Seminar Overview
This seminar will feature presentations from leading companies in the marine and offshore industry, as well as experts from CD-adapco. Talks will include:
  • Houston Offshore Engineering - VIM analysis of Deep Draft Column Stabilized Floaters
  • Technip - Virtual Wave Basin in the Design of Offshore Floaters
  • CD-adapco - Hull Form Optimization with STAR- CCM+ and HEEDS
If you’re interested in discovering more about what’s involved in performing such analyses, the seminar will feature both live demonstrations of STAR-CCM+ and an opportunity to try it yourself with a hands-on session.

This event is free, but registration is necessary. Visit our event page for more information and to sign up.
