Workshop on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Applications in the Agri-Food Industry
The 4th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies in Bio and Earth Sciences-(HAICTA 2008) will take place in Athens at 18th-20th of September 2008. The conference is organised by the Agriculture University of Athens. In the framework of conference will be hold a Workshop for the usefulness of the CFD (Computational Fluids Dynamics) for applications at Agricultural sector.

Type of Event: Workshop, International

Description:

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combines powerful
computers and applied mathematical physics to model fluid
flow and transport phenomena. The yardstick of success is
how well the results of numerical simulation agree with
experiment in cases where careful laboratory experiments can
be established, how can we trust the CFD predictions in
cases that we can not perform experiments or their cost is
extremely high, and how well the simulations can predict
highly complex flow and transport phenomena that can not be
studied in the laboratorial scale. As a developing science,
CFD has received extensive attention throughout the
international community since the great advent of the
digital processors. Researchers, equipment designers and
process engineers are increasingly using CFD to
analyse-predict-develop the flow and performance of process
equipment, such as baking ovens, refrigerated display
cabinets, stirred tanks, spray dryers, heat
exchangers,greenhouses, animal buildings and some other
equipment.

Workshop objectives are to give answers to the following
questions:
* Can we now trust the greenhouse CFD simulations?
* Are there unsolved questions?
* Are the existent mathematical models able to simulate real
cases?
* Do we need more validations?
* Do we need benchmarks?

Targeted Audience are researchers, equipment designers and
process engineers in the following fields:
* Greenhouses
* Animal buildings
* Food Processing
* Environmental technologies in agriculture
* Management and rational use of natural resources
* Energy saving
* Environmental protection and safety
