ANSYS Webinar: Streamline Mixing Analysis and Enable Quality by Design Using ANSYS Workbench
Using a prototypical fermentation process as an example, we will demonstrate the ability of the ANSYS Workbench platform to conduct multivariate analysis with a high degree of automation in all phases of the problem. The results will illustrate how CFD coupled with statistical methods can elucidate the interdependencies between critical process parameters and process performance, thus establishing a roadmap for using simulation as an additional tool in the QbD toolkit.

Increased emphasis on Quality by Design (QbD) for efficient
and consistent process output is changing the way simulation
tools are used in this industry. Barriers to implementing
QbD are primarily associated with the short-term costs
associated with increased process testing. Simulation tools
are a more attractive option because the cost of computer
modeling does not scale linearly with the number of process
parameters analyzed.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools are already widely
utilized to gain insight into the hydrodynamic and mass
transfer environment in mixing tanks and other unit
operations. The current situation is such that simulations
tend to focus on a single design point and/or a small range
of process parameters. The primary goal of this webinar is
to show how single-point simulation studies can be readily
extended to explore the engineering design space of a
process by coupling CFD to statistical tools.

Using a prototypical fermentation process as an example, we
will demonstrate the ability of the ANSYS Workbench platform
to conduct multivariate analysis with a high degree of
automation in all phases of the problem. The results will
illustrate how CFD coupled with statistical methods can
elucidate the interdependencies between critical process
parameters and process performance, thus establishing a
roadmap for using simulation as an additional tool in the
QbD toolkit.

are benefiting from the insight that computer simulation offers.
