Dear people,

I recently struggled to understand the DPMFoam and MPPICFoam solvers. I have written several reports on it for work and bundled them all here, including useful references. It can be a little chaotic as it is a collection of reports and I don't have time to rewrite them, however it describes some of the problems I encountered while trying to understand the solvers.

The report can be found here:

Ji Jeroen,

I have been using this solver over the last few months and your report on MPPICFoam has been really helpful over the last few weeks. The first few sections, classifying the continuum phase, were easy to follow. However, I am having issues in finding the equations you specify in the 'particle contributions section' in the solver code (DPMFoam). Is there a chance you can point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

Dear Charlie,

These would be located in the particle libraries in OpenFOAM. I am at the moment no longer working on this though, so I can't exactly recall where they are. The files particle(Cloud), kinematicCloud, kinematicParcel contain the update algorithms. I think the velocity and position update are in particleCloud, from there you can backtrace where particle forces are applied .

Hello,

I need to change the particle diameter of the MPPICFoam or DPMFoam solver. In my case, the particle grows over time. Do you have any idea how I could set this up?
  • DPMFoam, I guess I need to set V_p (equation (5)) varying over time.
  • MPPICFoam, I only see possible changes of m_p (equation (28)).
Do you have any hint to give me?

Hello, Dear Lumasci,

I am also using MPPCIFoam solver these days. I am facing the same difficulty as you.
Can you please elaborate here about any solution you found.
