The Computational Environmental Fluid Dynamics Group at the University of South Florida (USF) is recruiting a highly motivated Ph.D. student to join a research project focused on ocean turbulence, wave-current interaction,
and surf zone processes. This is a fully funded position supported by a research grant involving Detached Eddy Simulation (DES), OpenFOAM, and ROMS/COAWST-based modeling.
RESEARCH TOPICS:
Langmuir turbulence and its interaction with rip currents
Cross-shore scalar transport in the surf zone and inner shelf
Development and application of DES using OpenFOAM
Coupled modeling with ROMS and COAWST frameworks
Application of turbulence closures and wave-breaking parameterizations
QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Oceanography, or a closely related field
Strong background in fluid mechanics and numerical modeling
Programming experience (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Fortran, or C++)
Experience with OpenFOAM, ROMS, or COAWST is highly desirable
