Hi all,
following my previous question, i thought it would be better if i share screenshot from my excel file and also from STAR-CCM+ volume fraction parameter setting (see attachment) i'm trying to let the simulation understand that the volume fraction will change on every time-step with a different value. im using (xyz, time) table format. but couldn't manage to import my excel file data and when i do i will be getting an error stating that: VolumeFractionArrayProfile:: Component-0Profile: profile method properties not set correctly: Non-existent column "null" what is the issue ? even i have tried to change the time-step but still the simulation cannot run and showing me every time this message I put 0 in all cells that is empty under all x, y, z columns. please check attached photo. take note im using time-step 5s |

Hi Mohamed,
as you can see in your screenshot, the entry "Table: Data" reads "None Available". For sure, there is a column missing. Didn't you just forget to actually specify the volume fraction at given locations and time steps? More probable is that you misunderstood an x,y,z,time table which expects data at spacial and temperal coordinates. This counts to at least 5 columns of values. Do i assume correctly, that you just want to have a (inflow) boundary which has changing volume fractions of your phases? If so, use a time table only, then select the respective data column (p1/p2) for the respective phase: Code:
time p1 p2 0 1. 0. 1 0.8 0.2 2 0.6 0.4 Sebastian |

You currently have no table selected. Of course there will be an error when you try to run it without any table.
You need to import the table first. Explain and/or show us the screenshots of what you are doing to import the table and why the import fails. |

Thanks Sebastian. but how I will define the P1/P2 on the time table ?
I have tried to do this, but since the format is Table (time) without any other variable I'm not able to define P1 and P2. I have made another excel file as below Time P1 P2 0 0.2 0.8 1 0.6 0.4 2 0.8 0.2 when i import this table to volume fraction (composite) to upload on water phase for instant, i can see that only time variable is defined. appreciate more clarification on how to key-in the P1 and P2 on Table (time). |

For importing the table, I go the Tools->Tables--> File Table
and here the file will be imported to STAR-CCM+ then, I proceed to Region -->Boundries-->Inlet-->Physics Values-->volume Fraction in the volum fraction, i used Table (xyz, time). but to be honest also, im not sure if this is the right table type or not. then i just link the table on this tab. do i need to defined something else ? |

Hi Mohamed,
if a column header does match a field function name (, or x,y,z), StarCCM will automatically associate the columns to the respective field functions input. The selection will be greyed out. In all other cases, you need to tell starccm which column is what - by manually selecting the respective column. |

Hi
I underatand what you want. The problem is this. You should input volume fraction for simulation. you input location information but you didn't define the value of volume fraction. follow this. 1. Make 2 report 2. 1 is related the phase water 3. other 1 is related the phase air 4. change your B.C type of inlet composite 5. set your water volume fraction for the table for water 6. set your air volume fraction for the table for air use 2 tables. also the sum of volume fraction should be 1. If that is not 1, simulation will give you wrong solution. *In STAR-CCM+, even though sum of BC's volume fraction is not 1 simulation can run but undifined volume fraction will be devided. eg) 0 means 0.5 water, 0.5 air. *But, not BC but IC. sum of volume fraction should be 1 |
