LES TIME-AVERAGING

How is time-averaged data (velocity magnitude for example) extracted from a STAR-CD LES simulation?
Before starting the simultion in the LES menu there is an option for outputing statistically averaged properties beyond a specified time-step. However, when I view the (steady-state) results they seem to be for the final time-step and not a time-average of a range of time-steps. The only way, so far, that I have managed to view any time-averged data is by creating a *.pstt file which outputs results for a range of specified time-steps, exporting the results to EnSight and doing the time-averaging there. Note1: The *.pstt file however is very large. Note2: if it is a large number of time-steps EnSight's TempMean command and EnSight will crash. There must be an easier way of doing this!!! I thought star was supposed to do the time-averaging after each-time step automatically. Hope someone can help...this is driving me nuts! Andy. |

Once averaging has begun, your pst file should have average quantities on it as well as instantaneous, e.g. "Av. Velocity U-Comp." (getc sumn).

Yes, I agree, but, how do you get, for instance, the mgnitude of the Av. Velocity? And, why is it that when I export my results to EnSight the Av. Velocity U-, V- and W-components are not referenced in the Ensight case file but, the Av. Pressure, for example, is referenced in the Ensight case file?
Cheers Andy. |

have a look at oper getc, oper putc... just make sure you backup the original pst file!!... i think if you put averaged components into the instantaneous ones in the pst file you will be able to plot av,vel.mag....
