Hi
I recently tried to setup REEF3D model on a Windows PC using Ubuntu WSL and also on our Linux HPC. When I run the ‘8-1 2D Dam break’ tutorial case without any modifications (when run on one core, n=1), I am getting a ‘Segmentation fault’ error as shown in the screenshots below. I was not able to properly run an example from the tutorials. Could you please help me in troubleshooting these errors? Thank you in advance! |

Hi Ananth,
Could you also please upload your input files? We have updated the tutorials recently (and continue to do so). You will see that in the latest version, 8-1 is no longer a dam break case. I believe you are referring to what is 9-1 now. So, it is possible that you have an older version of the tutorial file. Therefore, please also upload the input files you have used. Thanks

Hi Kamath,
I checked the version of REEF3D and the manual says it is 21.02. WHile the manual has the dam break example as 9.1, the examples directory still has it as 8-1. Below attached are the input files directly copied from REEF3D source. Also, when requesting 1 processor and more than 1 processor, there are different error messages as attached in screenshots. Thanks for your help. |

Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce your error. I will have to check this on a WSL system sometime.
The first "error" that you post related to btl-vader.txt, you can simply ignore. I have seen this on several WSL systems, but seems to be more a "warning" than an "error" as simulations run just fine even after that error is displayed. The second one, the segmentation fault is actually of concern. But currently since I am unable to reproduce the error, I need some more time to troubleshoot this.

Thanks Arun, please let me know if any updates on this. Also, both the errors occur on CentOS HPC as well.

I am also having a similar error when making small changes to the rectangular wave tank wave generator tutorial. The links to the sourceforge page where one can download the REEF3D user guide is also not working, so I am unsure what version I currently have. I just downloaded and install yesterday, so forgive that I am very new.

These are input files that when run produced a segmentation fault on my Windows machine. By changing the B1 input in the control.txt file to 0.05, the code runs properly to the best of my knowledge. Why has requesting a smaller cell size caused the error? Thanks.

I am not entirely sure as I am yet to be able to reproduce the seg fault error.
I would though recommend that you download from github and not sourceforge.

The REEF3D sourceforge page no longer exists. Have a look here for the links to our GitHub repositories:
