Hi Foamers,

I am trying to simulate "turbulent natural convection along an isothermal vertical plate" (my geometry attached). Geometry dimension is (6m x 2m x 1m). I am using buoyantSimpleFoam. It will be an open boundary condition. So, now I can not understand how to set an open boundary condition (velocity, pressure, and temperature) for my problem. I have considered my geometry as follows,

lower patch- inlet
upper patch-outlet

The hotplate (333k) has created from the left wall by using toposet. I just set my geometry. is there anyone who can tell me how should I proceed for solving my problem? Which BC could be applicable for Velocity, pressure, and temperature especially. Any type of help is welcome.

First, what version of openFoam are you using? This will determine the flavor of bc that you'll need. However, for open boundaries you generally need boundary conditions that support entrainment. This is usually pressureInletOutletVelocity for velocity and a total pressure (possibly hydrostatic). Temperature is usually fine with inletOutlet. It will also likely be easier if you made the whole left boundary the hot plate.
