Hello CFD online community,
I am fairly new to OpenFoam and posting online for help, so please forgive me if this is not asked in the correct thread or has been covered before. I am trying to take the 3D geometry from the pipe tutorial in Fluent and import it into OpenFoam to perform the simulation in 3D. I have set up the geometry and saved it as a .msh ASCII file. I was not sure how many named sections were required so I named all external faces. Inlet velocity (small and large) Pressure Outlet Symmetry... and... The outer half of the pipe. When I run fluent3DMeshToFoam the boundary conditions appear fine and I adapted the 2D elbow tutorial in OpenFoam and it runs, but the Courant number increases and I get the errors below with (core dumped). If anyone could tell me where I can find out how to create the geometry correctly in ANSYS to import into OpenFoam or whether that is correct but I am doing something else wrong that would be a great help. Thanks in advance Sam Courant Number mean: 92.1761 max: 6992.39 #0 Foam::error:rintStack(Foam::Ostream&) at ??:? #1 Foam::sigFpe::sigHandler(int) at ??:? #2 ? in "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6" #3 Foam::symGaussSeidelSmoother::smooth(Foam::word const&, Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::lduMatrix const&, Foam::Field<double> const&, Foam::FieldField<Foam::Field, double> const&, Foam::UPtrList<Foam::lduInterfaceField const> const&, unsigned char, int) at ??:? #4 Foam::symGaussSeidelSmoother::smooth(Foam::Field<d ouble>&, Foam::Field<double> const&, unsigned char, int) const at ??:? #5 Foam::smoothSolver::solve(Foam::Field<double>&, Foam::Field<double> const&, unsigned char) const at ??:? #6 ? in "/home/sam/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/icoFoam" #7 ? in "/home/sam/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/icoFoam" #8 ? in "/home/sam/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/icoFoam" #9 ? in "/home/sam/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/icoFoam" #10 __libc_start_main in "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6" #11 ? in "/home/sam/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1606+/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/icoFoam" Floating point exception (core dumped) |

If the Mesh is the Problem you should check the differences between the two checkMesh log files

Hi Marvin thanks for your reply, I have since removed the error by significantly reducing the deltaT in the ControlDict file. However I am still not gaining matching results to Fluent and the contours do not look quite right. The example in OpenFoam is 2D and the geometry I am trying to work with is 3D from the ANSYS tutorial, would you know the correct way to set this up?
