Hello,

I have recently purchased an AMD 7501 CPU and I'm having difficulties with assessing the compatibility with the KRPA-U16 motherboard. On the motherboard website only gen 2 AMD Epyc CPUs are listed for compatibility. The reason I went for this CPU is that I found it really cheap, around $600.

https://www.asus.com/Commercial-Serv.../HelpDesk_CPU/

https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-epyc-7501

I will be building the CPU starting with these two parts if compatibility is confirmed. Thank you in advance.

Technically, the bios chip on this board would be large enough to hold a compatible bios for both Rome and Naples. It's a bit weird that Asus only lists compatibility with Rome CPUs.
I would say that this is one of those rare instances where contacting support would be the best course of action.

Well, ASUS support told me that the board is not compatible with Naples series, which is quite disappointing. I want to believe that they said that simply by looking at the specs on the website, which might be just a marketing ploy, since I see no reason to not have backwards compatibility. Anyway, the board has already been ordered, if I can't cancel the order until it gets here, I'll be able to test compatibility. But right now I'm trying to cancel the order and resort to a Supermicro board (will make sure it is a rev 2.x one). Thank you for the help flotus, you're doing amazing work.

Edit: It seems that the KNPA-U16 board, which was initially compatible with the 7001 series, is also forward compatible with the 7002 series, which seems normal and would make the KRPA board look silly.

I've got a definitive answer from ASUS, in that Naples are not compatible with the KRPA-U16 board because they don't have PCI 4.0 support. Weird though how the KNPA-U16 is compatible with both Naples and Rome. Anyway, I'll take their answer for granted and find another board for my 7501.
