The formation of internal porosity can affect the final
quality of the casting part. Once filling is complete, a
solidification simulation is performed to track the opening
of voids that results in defects. In addition to predicting
microporosity and macroporosity, FLOW-3D Cast is also used
to investigate a detailed temperature history of the casting
part to determine if additional cooling is required, and
whether the initial process parameters need to be modified.
In the final stage of HPDC, we also look at the thermally
induced stresses when the casting part is being cooled after
ejection from the die.
