Time Changes All Things…Even Air Flow & Temperature
|
This webinar will examine the meaning of time scales in
physical systems and the implications to electronics
cooling simulations. Both flow and thermal time scales
will be demonstrated through sample simulations along
with foundational calculations that help us understand
and predict transient situations.

Description: |
"The only constant is change." This quote is attributed
to the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, and it is as
true of engineering simulation as it is of life. Every
situation we wish to simulate is in reality a time-
varying situation, whether on the macro-time scale of
days or weeks, or on the micro-time scales of
milliseconds at which turbulence operates. Yet the vast
majority of engineering simulations, including thermal
simulations of electronics, are performed as steady
situations. Why can we do this? When is steady-state a
legitimate assumption?
This webinar will examine the meaning of time scales in
physical systems and the implications to electronics
cooling simulations. Both flow and thermal time scales
will be demonstrated through sample simulations along
with foundational calculations that help us understand
and predict transient situations. Also, a unique co-
simulation transient approach will be shown as a method
of addressing problems with dramatically different flow
and thermal time scales.
