Description:

IFP Energies nouvelles is pleased to announce the 4th
edition of its LES4ICE conference to be held in
Rueil-Malmaison (close to Paris) on 4 and 5 December 2014.

LES4ICE aims at providing a forum of exchange concerning
recent advances in Large-Eddy Simulation research applied to
Internal Combustion Engine Flows and related experimental
techniques.

It brings together engine designers and research scientists
working in the field of ICE to debate the state of art in
LES applied to ICEs and examine advanced experimental
techniques capable of supporting and validating its
development.

MAIN TOPICS

LES applications to ICE

* Detailed LES studies of interactions between intake
aerodynamics and fuel injection
* Predicting & understanding cyclic combustion variability
by LES
* Predicting and characterising abnormal combustion (knock,
superknock) with LES
* High-fidelity LES of mixture preparation and combustion
phenomena

Experiments for LES

* Experimental techniques with a potential for supporting
the development of LES
* Experimental databases for validating LES (simplified
geometries and engines)
* Postprocessing of experimental measurements for detailed
comparison with LES

LES methodology

* Numerical methods adapted for LES
* Quality criteria for LES of ICE flows
* Mesh convergence studies of LES for ICE
* Comparing & validating LES with experimental evidence
* Exploiting knowledge acquired from LES

LES models for ICE flows

* Sub-grid scale turbulence
* Wall friction and heat fluxes
* Fuel injection
* Mixing
* Combustion
