Webinar: Optimizing Chemical Reactor Performance with Computer Simulation
This webinar introduces the economics of reactor design and the relevant elements of reaction engineering simulations, addressing concerns such as: detailed chemistry, competing and parallel reactions, reactions with varying time and length scales, accounting for the effect of fluid mechanics in general, and turbulence-chemistry interaction in particular.

Description:

July 25, 11:00 EDT - Duration 1 hour

In the process and energy industries, significant
engineering effort goes into better understanding and
management of chemical reactions. With recent emphasis on
new material design, energy savings, greenhouse gas
reduction, pollution abatement and increased safety
concerns, chemical engineers are turning to detailed
three-dimensional virtual prototyping for optimization of
complex reactors. Recent advances in computer and modeling
technology are providing insights into the detailed effects
of transport, equipment components, and overall reactor
performance.

This webinar introduces the economics of reactor design
and the relevant elements of reaction engineering
simulations, addressing concerns such as: detailed
chemistry, competing and parallel reactions, reactions with
varying time and length scales, accounting for the effect of
fluid mechanics in general, and turbulence-chemistry
interaction in particular. Other aspects such as the effect
of particle size distribution, micro-reactors, and
multi-phase flow physics will be introduced, but the
emphasis will be on modeling complex single-phase turbulent
reacting flows in which fluid mechanics plays a strong role.
Several illustrative examples will also be included.

Presenters:
Dr. Nitin H. Kolhapure, Sr Consulting Engineer, DuPont
Engineering Research & Technology
Dr. Ahmad Haidari, Global Industry Director, ANSYS, Inc.
