Title | Interaction of a vortex ring with a freely moving body |
Category | Job in Academia |
Employer | Institute of Fluid Mechanics, Toulouse, France |
Location | France, Toulouse |
International | Yes, international applications are welcome |
Closure Date | Friday, May 03, 2024 |
Description: | |
The goal of the project is to investigate the physical mechanisms governing the interaction behaviours occurring between a vortez ring and an inertial body, freely falling or rising under the effect of buoyancy (capture by the vortex ring, entrainment, deformation, fragmentation, and in turn, attenuation or destruction of the vortex ring). The cases of bubbles and solid bodies, rigid or flexible, will be investigated. The numerical analysis will be developed using data previously obtained from time-resolved 3D-PTV experiments, that will be processed to obtain an accurate joint 3D reconstruction and characterization of the body trajectory and shape, as well as the surrounding flow field. This fundamental investigation has a large range of applications in industrial and environmental flows involving dispersed two-phase flows. To be eligible, you need to: - have a Master degree - have strong skills in programming and fluid mechanics, and have an interest for experiments. |
